(…Continuation of What is Capstone?)

This blog post is an addition to the capstone project I am working on for my Media Design program at Maryville University. For this blog, I will be documenting my process throughout my course. This process will direct my end product. My posts will help me self-analyze and discuss my ideas. I hope you are following along with me!

I had my first meeting with a professional designer and received powerful feedback from them. I met with Stephanie Miller, a graphic designer, and illustrator. She has her own website where she creates custom stationery, hand lettering, and fine art. We discussed my capstone project over a Zoom call while I shared a short presentation discussing what I created so far. My presentation discussed my brand identity, project brief, mood board, target types, and competitive research. I also discussed my first product mock-ups for the project in my meeting.

The suggestions given to me helped me decide what was working for my project. The logo I chose for my brand identity was the strongest one that she agreed with. Stephanie agreed that my campaign would work especially for communities and people who want to partake in beekeeping but do not know where to start. My target types were a good consideration of people who would have an interest in my brand. She gave me suggestions for font choices, layouts, and color combinations for my first product which was the most helpful.

The adjustments I will be making to my project include adjusting layouts and switching colors between different elements. I will also take the feedback I received and apply it to the first product I am creating. I made an array of adjustments before the meeting that I felt made it even more successful and went well over my presentation. The process was simple as I broke down each slide to her and explained it while asking if she had any questions. I felt the approach I took was explaining it to her as if she were me before I started my capstone project.

If I had to do this process again I wish I would not have been as nervous as I was going into it versus when I was finished presenting. I enjoyed hearing that my ideas were flowing in the right direction and that my design was strong. I learned when I am presenting that I need to slow down sometimes and breathe. I feel I can improve on transitioning to different slides and topics. I felt confident while engaging and guiding my presentation.
